Literacy: The Roots of Academic Success

Students’ ability to read proficiently has a significant impact on their long-term achievement, so we’re laser-focused on reading proficiency at Seeds of Health Elementary. Trained through the evidence-based LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) professional development program that’s grounded in the science of reading, our teachers are equipped to meet every student’s needs. Seeds of Health Elementary utilizes the following high-quality instructional material:

  • K4: Wonders (McGraw Hill)
  • K5-2nd Grade: Superkids (Zaner-Bloser)
  • 3rd-8th Grade: Wit & Wisdom (Great Minds)

Additionally, Seeds of Health Elementary students receive foundational reading support through Lexia Core5 (K-5th Grade) and Lexia PowerUp Literacy (5th-8th Grade), research-proven tools that accelerate the development of literacy skills for students of all abilities.

The Seeds of Health Elementary literacy team measures and carefully analyzes student progress towards demonstrating grade level proficiency and develops Personal Reading Plans for students who need additional support.

Seeds of Health programs have always been committed to helping students achieve the highest levels of literacy as they learn to read, write, speak and listen effectively. Building upon that tradition, we have focused our literacy lens on “disciplinary literacy.” Teachers in all subject areas—or disciplines—are striving to make sure that our students understand the literacy practices unique to their content areas. At Seeds of Health, all teachers are reading teachers and all teachers are writing teachers. It is our belief that students should read and write in every classroom every day.
